For the first time since the Duluth Public Library's Mt. Royal Branch opened in 1998, the space will soon undergo a major renovation as customer needs have expanded over the years and space within the building has become available. The project includes the replacement of all carpeting, a more efficient service desk, and an expansion into the former Yarn Harbor retail space next door. The additional space will create some seating areas and allow for more programs and events to be held at the Mt. Royal Branch.
The branch library will be closed during the remodeling project beginning Monday, May 2, 2016. During that time, all reserved materials normally picked up at the Mt. Royal Branch will be held at the Main Library (520 W. Superior St.).
During construction library staff will have limited access to the branch library space, so it will be helpful if people are able to return materials to the Main Library.
The bookdrop outside the Mt. Royal shopping center will remain open, however, and will be emptied regularly during the week.
Preschoolers and parents who attend Mt. Royal's weekly storytime program will have storytime choices at the two other Duluth Public Library locations. West Duluth Branch Library (5830 Grand Ave.) has a Bedtime Storytime every Tuesday at 6:30 pm. Baby and Toddler Time is held every Wednesday morning at 10:15 am at the Main Library for children ages 2 and under, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Preschool Storytime is held every Wednesday morning at 11:15 am at the Main Library for children ages 3-5.
Funding for the project comes from a combination of the City of Duluth Capital Improvement Fund and a bequest from Jerome Clarence Miller.
